Upcycled Crafts from Thrift Store Finds

It’s that time of year again when the Thrift Store Decor Team and I look back at alllll the upcycled crafts we’ve created over the course of the year. I also get a little professionally nostalgic every December as I reflect on how my website has grown and changed throughout the past 12 months.

While my website continues to expand and evolve, the central tenet (all things secondhand) remains firmly in place. But I’ve enjoyed expanding my blogging horizons by writing posts that aren’t just upcycling tutorials. For instance, I finally collected all my thoughts on thrifting and created this post on tips and tricks.

I’ve also cranked out a number of themed “round-up” posts for my fellow thrifters and crafters. In case you missed any over the year, here are some of the most popular ones:

From a professional standpoint, these posts do really well on Pinterest and other online searches. And, of course, traffic like that is what helps pay the bills around here! So, I’ll keep putting those together so long as I come up with new ideas for the themes. Speaking of which, what kinds of idea collections would you love to see and have saved in your Pinterest boards?

And while I didn’t put together a third installment of my “Our Thrifted Home” series this year, I’ll do that in 2025! Because we *have* continued to collect furnishings, art, and other decor for our home throughout the year. And I definitely want to show you our newest treasures and how they look in our home.

I also hope to add a few more Junkin’ Journey itineraries to the website in 2025, too. I only added two new ones in 2024: Jacksonville, Florida and Savannah, Georgia.

But, I digress. Let’s look back at some of my favorite upcycled crafts from 2024.

Favorite Upcycled Crafts

Even though I create fewer projects throughout the year than I used to, I still come up with a handful that I’m extra proud of. In 2024, my favorite project of mine was probably this Brutalist-inspired mid-century modern wall decor.

It’s such an insanely, ridiculously easy project. But the crazy part is that I found several more of these at the thrift store afterwards, so expect a different version in 2025.

This was another easy one in 2024, using something you find at thrift stores all the time. I haven’t made many garden-themed projects recently, but maybe that’ll change next year.

A lot of my projects are mid-century modern style these days, but some of them could be tailored to other decor styles as well. And this tabletop bookshelf using a broken thrifted treasure is definitely one of them.

That’s the beauty of stenciling, isn’t it? I don’t stencil as much as other bloggers, but it’s the easiest way to personalize and tailor a project to a certain style of home decor.

And even though this is one of the most recent projects this year, I’m so proud of it. Maybe not the small project itself, but pulling together a Thanksgiving tablescape using mostly thrifted finds was a really fun challenge for me!

Ok- enough of just my projects! Here’s a bunch of thrift store crafts and other upcycle ideas from the entire Thrift Store Decor Team.

Thrifting and Crafting Inspiration for the Coming Year

I’ve been collaborating with these gals for several years now, and in many ways, they’ve become good friends of mine. So, of course I picked my favorite upcycled crafts of theirs to showcase, as well.

Thank you for spending so much time with me today as we look back at all these upcycling ideas from the past year. I never quite know what the coming year will bring, but I do know that I’ll keep plugging along. No matter the economic situation, upcycling seems to always be in style

I always pledge to focus on creating upcycled crafts using items from my storage, but then I get the itch to go thrifting. And all my willpower and focus goes out the window! But I *am* excited to be working with the Charlotte Region ReStores again. I’ll make sure to include some of those links in my newsletters throughout the year, so make sure you’re a subscriber in order to hear about them.

I hope you’ve gotten inspired by all these upcycled crafts and feel jazzed up for the coming year. I think thrifting and crafting from the recycle bin will be as popular as ever. And I certainly plan on challenging myself to come up with fresh new ways to creatively repurpose whatever I can get my hands one.

Or just quirky craft ideas, like this one with a sheet of sandpaper

Thank you, from the bottom of my crafty heart, for always being with me every step of the way. And on behalf of the entire Thrift Store Decor Team, I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season!

Craft on!
