Craft room organization is an upward battle for most crafters and makers. Paints, brushes, beads, notions- all these supplies (and so much more) get easily out of hand in a disorganized mess. Organizing and storing them is key to a crafter’s sanity and saves them from having to re-purchase supplies they already have (but got lost in the mess). These upcycled projects are a great way to get your craft supplies organized in a thrifty AND crafty way.Read more ›
Nail Apron as a Brush Organizer
Even though I already upcycled something into a paint brush holder, I had an idea that I wanted to try out. And it involved a nail apron, or one of those canvas aprons that workers used to wear (or maybe still wear?) at hardware stores.Read more ›
Craft Paper Storage in a Vintage Photo Album
Craft paper storage for my vintage ephemera (i.e., old paper stuff like labels) was not high on my list of “priority projects”. But, I spotted a vintage photo album at the thrift store the other day, and, well, fate had another plan in mind. It just seemed ideal to be upcycled into a DIY paper organizer!
Organizing Craft Supplies with a Paint Brush Holder
Craft room storage and organization craft supplies are a constant struggle for me, so it’s on my mind a lot. And this entire post started out when I found a flatware caddy while thrifting. At first I wasn’t sure what I’d do with it, but I realized later on that it would PERFECT as a paint brush holder.Read more ›
Upcycling Ideas for Craft Supply Storage and Organization
I’m fairly certain that one of the universal truths in the crafting world is that craft supply storage and organization is a CONSTANT struggle. Whether we’re talking beads, small bottles of paint, sewing notions, yarn, or paper ephemera, there is an unending need for organizing craft supplies. No matter the material or supply in question!Read more ›
Hardware Organizer from a Tupperware Veggie Tray
This upcycling idea has been rattling around in my head for nearly a year now, but up until recently, I wasn’t sure how to fully execute it. You see, I have coveted a hardware organizer for a while now. You know the kind I’m talking about, right? One of those spinning organizers for small parts or nuts and bolts that you would find in a General Store? Anyway, I couldn’t pull the trigger on an authentic one (too pricey) and I didn’t want to purchase a reproduction (like this one below). Read more ›
Upcycling a Vintage Magazine Holder as Stencil Storage
One of my craft room organization conundrums is stencil storage: How to organize and store all my reusable stencils that accumulate over time? Finally, I had an upcycling idea (or maybe epiphany). What if I upcycled a vintage magazine holder into a file tote for stencil storage? Read more ›
Craft Paint Storage in Wooden Drawers
One thing that all crafters have in common is dealing with craft room organization (or the lack thereof). We have so many materials (lots of them little and spill-able), and craft paint storage or paint storage in general is often a problem. I mean, let’s face it…those little bottles of craft paint can really get out of hand!Read more ›
Tabletop Version of a Vintage Library Card Catalog
On one of my typical thrifting adventures, I spied this mini chest of drawers near the cash register at the thrift shop. I didn’t really fancy the painted fruit “still life” that covered it, but I WAS curious about the wood underneath the paint. The idea of a “makeunder” floated through my mind as I envisioned a vintage library card catalog as the end result.
DIY Ribbon Holder from a Countertop Wine Rack
I think we can all agree that my mind works in mysterious ways- sometimes it’s a great thing (when a project works out!) and sometimes it’s bothersome (when a project fails). But once again, there I was in a thrift store, looking at everything through Sadie-colored glasses. And one of the things I spotted was this countertop wine rack that was unexciting but full of potential. As I studied the small wine rack, my mind started to see it as a DIY ribbon holder. Read more ›
