Upcycle Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day Decorations

Upcycle Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day Decorations

Not everybody celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, but I don’t think anyone hates it, either. Which makes it one of the less polarizing holidays on the yearly calendar! And you certainly don’t have to be Irish or drink beer to enjoy it, either. Sometimes, it’s just a fun reason to add extra touches of green to your home- and maybe a shamrock or two. Here are some wonderful upcycle and DIY ideas for St. Patrick’s Day decorations- who knows, maybe some of them will bring you a little good luck, as well.

What is it about mason jars that makes me want to miniaturize everything and capture it like this? Even the Irish countryside, which I did with this St. Patrick’s Day-inspired craft project. Isn’t it just the cutest?

Paper napkins are a favorite secret amongst crafters, because they are PERFECT for decoupage projects. Which means you can easily make some St. Patrick’s Day decorations with some shamrock napkins. Like this thrifted cutting board, for example.

Speaking of milk glass…

Vintage milk glass vases continue to be a popular thing to collect these days- for weddings, vintage decor, and more. But what about (temporarily!) embellished for seasonal holidays? These milk glass vases were done up elegantly for St. Patrick’s Day and it was SO easy to do! Imagine the possibilities for other holidays and seasons, as well…

Scarves are ideal for upcycling into various types of wreaths, and bandanas are no exception. These green bandanas work perfectly as a St. Patrick’s Day wreath. And there are so many ways to further embellish it with flowers, greenery, gold coins, and more.

Like cardboard, wine corks are another inexpensive craft supply that’s easy to get your hands one. Which makes them perfect for holiday decor projects, like this colorful shamrock.

If you’re going all out for St. Patrick’s Day- including your dining table- then you need the right dishes to pull it off. And this post talks all about Royal Tara china and incorporating it into your shamrock-inspired tablescape.

Thrift stores are great places to seek out potential St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Not only can items be given festive makeovers, but you never know when you might find clover-shaped bowls and platters, too. And they are perfect for incorporating into your holiday decor at this time of year.

If your holiday style errs on the whimsical side, then this DIY planter is perfect for you. Shaped like a leprechaun’s shoe, it’s a fun and festive splash of color now that winter is melting away.

Well, would you look at that? Nary a shamrock, rainbow, or leprechaun in sight- and yet, it totally works as St. Patrick’s Day decorations. All you need is green and gold– but a few fresh flowers never hurt, either.

St. Patrick’s Day Wreath

St. Patrick’s Day may not be a holiday significant enough for a wreath. But if you change your mind, perhaps this one will get your creative juices flowing. It started out as a plain faux boxwood wreath from a thrift store- but a few shamrocks later, it’s got the perfect Irish touch. But let’s be honest- it’s the rainbow bow that steals the show, right?

Book Page Banner

Banners and garlands are a favorite way to commemorate holidays, and there are tons of ways to make them easily (and on the cheap). In this case, a thrift store book lent its pages for the project– and some shamrock stickers give it that St. Patrick’s Day feel.

It’s not St. Patrick’s Day until a pot of gold is involved. And apparently a thrifted picture frame to capture it all with this upcycled craft!

Rainbow Organizer/Planter

Like shamrocks and pots o’ gold, rainbows are fun to incorporate into your St. Patrick’s Day decorations, too. And while this one that I made was used to hold some craft supplies, go with me for a moment. Imagine this rainbow project, but as a planter holding faux shamrocks instead. Wouldn’t that be darling for St. Patrick’s Day?

Felt Shamrocks

Speaking of artificial shamrocks, you don’t even need to hunt them down from the craft store. Because you can easily make your own versions out of felt and use them in your St. Patrick’s Day decor, as well!
