Wooden drawers- no matter where they come from- are full of repurposing and upcycling potential. Whether they are from a vintage dresser, a sewing cabinet, a library card catalog, or something else entirely, there are endless shapes and sizes. And if you think about it, wooden drawers are a ready-built box or crate just waiting to be refurbished in a new and unexpected way!
I’m certainly no stranger to upcycling drawers, either. One of my favorite projects using drawers is my craft paint storage, which I use all the time.
I tend to find random, salvaged drawers at my local Habitat ReStores stores…and occasionally on the curb during trash day! And from organizers, to pet beds and home decor, upcycled drawers are DEFINITELY one of my favorite things.
I’m always amazed when people throw out drawers from old furniture or a kitchen remodel! Because they can truly be repurposed in so many useful ways.
Since I always gravitate towards wood pieces to repurpose, drawers are a natural fit for me. You can paint them, deconstruct them, add/remove hardware, decoupage them. etc.
Or turn them into a portable potting bench, like this!
Just like cutting boards and picture frames, drawers are very much a blank slate that are ideal for repurposing and upcycling ideas.
So, I’ve assembled a few of my favorite upcycling ideas for drawers from upcycling bloggers like myself to inspire you to work with your own repurposed drawers!
Upcycling Ideas for Repurposed Drawers or Wooden Drawers
So, what do you think- aren’t repurposed drawers something you need in your life? Especially since there are SO MANY organization and storage ideas with dresser drawers.
Such as turning them into rustic wooden crates, like I did.
And who couldn’t use a little more of that in their life?
If you enjoyed these upcycling ideas for upcycled drawers, then you’ll love this industrial bedside table that was made from old VHS tape storage cases!
AND I’m so excited to announce that my first book is now available! If you love working with flannel or fabric crafts in general (sewing and non-sewing), then you will LOVE “Crafting with Flannel”!

I see at least two I want to do! Thank you for the inspiration. How about doing a cabinet door round up next? ?
Hahaha, you have a little psychic-ness happening! My Thursday project involves a cabinet door- and YES, I definitely plan to do a cabinet door round-up in the future. 🙂 😉
Thanx for getting these all together for us; makes it easier to find some inspiration when they are all in one place!
Awesome. Thanks. Saw several I want to try.
Woohoo! I’ll be working on my near pair here very soon. 🙂
How much fun looking at these idea!
Thank you, Maria!
