It’s that time of year again, when those of us in the Northern Hemisphere start to feel the excitement of Spring. The days get longer, the yard gets more colorful, and all of a sudden, EVERYTHING YOU OWN starts looking like a planter. So, the Thrift Store Decor Team decided to pool all of our garden projects into a single collection of upcycling ideas for your yard, garden, and patio.
From upcycled planters to bird baths and feeders, I’ve made quite a few garden projects over the years. Some of my favorites include these hanging baskets, which started as lampshades:
Also these DIY plant markers that started out as shoe trees. I’m such a sucker for decorative toadstools that look like they came from a fairy tale!
And as soon as I had a yard with a fence, I had to make some colorful fence decorations from plastic trays!
I’ve made many, many more garden projects, of course, but I’m getting ahead of myself. Before I show you the entire collection, I want to share some of my favorite upcycling ideas from my fellow Team members first.
Garden Projects from the Team
This vintage seed and fertilizer spreader that House of Hawthornes found is truly a junkin’ dream come true. Just look at those colors! And as a planter for a junk garden?
Perfection.
For the indoor gardener, potted herbs in your kitchen are perfect for cooking. And using bright blue mason jars as planters makes them pretty enough to be a gift!
Ahh, the garden gazing ball! There are loads of ways to make them, but My Repurposed Life’s way might be the easiest. And don’t they look fantastic?
After a year of NO summer parties and porch-based happy hours, I’m hoping that this year will be different. Which makes this outdoor beverage station (from an old door!) especially eye-catching to me.
And this idea for a beat up old bird feeder is fantastic! We’ve all had bird feeders that get broken or are no longer cleanable for safe feeding, right? So, repurposing one as a hanging planter is just a fabulous idea!
And how about this diamond painted outdoor rug? I absolutely LOVE this idea for a covered space outside!
So, now that you’ve seen my favorite garden projects from my fellow blogging friends, are you ready for the full collection? From planters, to patios, to growing tips, and beyond- we have DEFINITELY got you covered this Spring!
150+ Repurposing and Upcycling Ideas for Garden Projects
WOW! Now THAT’S what I can an inspiring list of garden projects! My goodness, I’m not even sure where to start- there are so many fabulous ideas!
Admittedly, this Spring will be very different for me, gardening-wise. We moved last summer and I don’t have my oasis of a backyard to putter around in or make projects for.
Like these garden signs that I made with grill forks, of all things!
But I have faith that our next home (we’re in a temporary space right now) will allow me to stretch my green thumbs, so-to-speak. I’ll likely get it designated as wildlife habitat, as well!
I hope we’ve given you loads of project inspiration for garden projects in your own yard! Upcycling and gardening go hand-in-hand on so many levels, so it was extra fun to put this collection together.
Happy Spring from the Thrift Store Decor Team!

I love all your recycle/upcycle projects. I wish you would do another book and have it about these types of projects! Thanks for all the great ideas!
Awww, thank you! Gardening ones are awfully fun, that’s for sure!
