Getting your house organized and under control is always a good idea. But the weeks following the holiday hoopla is my favorite time to really focus on it. And, of course, I use all kinds of repurposed items to get organized. And I thought you, too, might be looking for some easy upcycling ideas for house storage and organization.
Whether you’re organizing your kitchen…
Or your craft supplies, such as craft paint…
Or, perhaps your home office, such as all those passwords that we need to remember…
No matter what you’re hoping to organize or tidy up, chances are there is a recycling idea out there for you!
In fact, when someone asks me how to “start” thinking like an upcycler, I always tell them to start with organization. So many pieces at the thrift store are “holders”: coffee cups, magazine racks, even Tupperware.
Even vent registers from Habitat ReStore!
And using a thrifted “holder” to hold or store something else is the easiest upcycling idea ever, right?
Plus, if you upcycle your storage piece, you have full control of transforming it into something stylish for your home. No one would ever guess this industrial storage table started out as old VHS tape cases, right?
Moral of the story? The number of easy upcycling ideas for home storage and organization are likely endless. But, I’ve gone ahead and gathered a bunch of my favorites for you.
From kitchens to craft rooms, home offices and garages…there are SO MANY recycling ideas for home organization. And maybe some of these will fulfill a need of yours!
Easy Upcycling Ideas for House Storage and Organization
See what I mean? Thinking outside the box, or even thinking INSIDE the box (or drawer, as the case may be here), is such a fun approach to home storage and organization.
I love putting the “fun” in functional when it comes to my projects, too! An enjoyable upcycling project that is a work horse, too? Double bonus!
Looking through these ideas REALLY make me yearn for normal days of thrifting whenever I wanted to. Gosh, I can’t wait to get back to that soon!
But until then, I hope you’re inspired to put some of your thrifted pieces to good re-use as organizers at home. And remember, if it can hold something, then it can probably hold something ELSE if you want it to (like stencils below, instead of magazines).
And making it pretty is just icing on the organized cake if you ask me!

I love your abillity to see beyond a dingy, dusty piece of stuff to make a lovely, rejuvenated, useful item. Although I have a lot of imagination for dollhouse minis, you have taught me to see possiblities in thrifted items which has been a great gift. Thank you.
I need an idea for repurposing a vintage galvanized rolling double wash tub. Do you have any ideas besides a planter? Would love to be able to use it, been sitting in the basement for years, in excellent condition. Thank you.
Hmmm…I’ve seen them upcycled into benches and storage chests. Would that work? http://irishmanacres.blogspot.com/2015/10/our-recycled-water-trough-update-and.html
Omgoodness, I loved your instructions for the boho hanky bracelet, excellent pictures, easy to follow, AWESOME. Will make great stocking stuffers for my tween granddaughters. Thx for sharing!
