I think we can all agree that “fanny packs” are immensely handy, especially for travel or while at a festival or fair. BUT, it’s also agreeable that they aren’t particularly attractive and have a punchline stigma attached to them. So, when I was meandering through the purse section of a local thrift store the other day, I had a touch of inspiration from a small purse at a thrift store. I could easily transform it into a hip purse.Read more ›
Best Upcycling Ideas and Repurposing Projects by Sadie Seasongoods
Portable Potting Bench from a Dresser Drawer
Every Spring and Summer, my Pinterest and Facebook news feeds are filled to the brim with big, beautiful potting benches! Whether constructed from pallets or old doors, or even a genuine vintage potting table, they are stunning and, well, LARGE. But, here’s the thing- I’m a gardener on a very small scale. I simply don’t have the space or need for a potting bench that is normal size. So, I set forth to create something on a smaller scale: a portable potting bench!Read more ›
Upcycling an Old Washboard into a Chicken Wire Frame
Whenever I stumble upon an antiques mall that has a “Clearance Section” I am like a heat-seeking missile with one goal in mind: to find a broken vintage treasure (on the cheap!) to become my next repurposing project. And so, when my eyes fell upon this old washboard that was missing the actual washboard, I knew it was a moment of crafting kismet. It seemed destined for upcycling and would be perfect as primitive decor.Read more ›
Berry Baskets as Bookends and Strawberry Decor
To tell you the truth, I’m not entirely sure why I picked up these berry baskets while thrifting a while back. I didn’t have a project idea in mind and the thrift store had written the price on the side of one of the baskets (the horror!). BUT, I decided they were worth the risk and eventually an upcycling idea came to me: I’d transform them into bookends!Read more ›
Fake Firecrackers from Cardboard Tubes
I’ll be perfectly honest- in the months leading up to summer, I struggled to come up with a single patriotic project idea. I bemoaned this to everyone- my husband, my friends, and my mom. But it all changed on a dime when I went to a new favorite thrift store and found this star basket for a dollar. I knew right away that I could jazz it up into Independence Day decorations with some fake firecrackers!Read more ›
Flower Frog Vase from a Cheese Shaker
There are certain things that I always find on my thrifting adventures and yet, always pass by- and one of those used to be cheese shakers. I never had a fun or fresh idea for them…until recently. And once I had a vision in mind, I just couldn’t shake it (pun intended)! I wondered if a shaker top would act as a flower frog or floral frog to create flower centerpieces. Read more ›

This, my friends, is a Junkin’ Journey long in the making. You see, we’ve been traveling to Blue Ridge, GA for the past 10 years…falling in love with the town and area a little bit more with each visit. It’s been a family destination for a long time and there are so many things to do in Blue Ridge. And one of them happens to be shopping in Blue Ridge, GA – specifically at antique malls, vintage shops, and thrift stores! Read more ›
Tabletop Version of a Vintage Library Card Catalog
On one of my typical thrifting adventures, I spied this mini chest of drawers near the cash register at the thrift shop. I didn’t really fancy the painted fruit “still life” that covered it, but I WAS curious about the wood underneath the paint. The idea of a “makeunder” floated through my mind as I envisioned a vintage library card catalog as the end result.
Bottle Cap Coasters from Tartlet Tins
Last Fall, the Mr. and I were perusing the shelves at a local craft beer store when I spotted a display of bottle cap coasters. I chuckled to myself because I thought it was a cute idea. But, as I walked on by, I had a “Wait a second!” moment. Read more ›
